Reynolds Chosen as Teacher of the Year
Pamela Reynolds of Siloam Springs has been selected by the Arkansas Foreign Language Teachers Association (AFLTA) to serve as Teacher of the Year for 2014. The membership of AFLTA is comprised of teachers representing all foreign languages taught in the state, at all grades from kindergarten through college/university, and at all levels from beginning through graduate study.
Reynolds is a national board certified teacher who has taught Spanish for seven years at Siloam Springs High School. She is a past state president of the American Association of Teacher of Spanish and Portuguese as well as immediate past president of AFLTA. She represented AFLTA as a delegate to national foreign language conferences in 2011 and 2012 and she has been a presenter at district and state conferences as well as advocate for foreign language education statewide. She has served on the AFLTA Board of Directors since 2008.
She earned a Bachelor of Science in Spanish from University of Arkansas in 2005 and began her teaching career in the secondary schools of Fort Smith.
Mrs. Reynolds will represent Arkansas in the Teacher of the Year regional competition on March 13-14, 2014 in Memphis. She stated, “Foreign language education changes perspectives. I love watching students’ eyes be opened to worlds very different from their own. Seeing them find common ground and learn to communicate in a new culture is a special kind of joy.”
IMPORTANT INFO: Due to the numerous inclement weather days, we are doing our Career and Academic Planning (CAP) process differently this year. During the week of Feb. 17, the counselors conducted grade level meetings with all students, and at this meeting, each student was given a copy of the CAP book, their transcript, and their credit check. In March, all three counselors will meet with every student in small groups for the purpose of signing up for next year’s classes. After we return from spring break, your student will bring home a form with the classes he/she has selected along with their teachers’ recommendations. If you agree with the course selections, then please sign the form and have your student return it to their 2nd hour teacher. If you have questions or if you would like to visit with a teacher, we will have parent/teacher scheduling conferences on April 8 from 3:30 to 6:30pm. During this time we will have teachers from each department present to meet with you and answer any questions. Thank you.
